Ah gawd, am so sick of anglos appropriating native regalia and symbolic clothing without any regard for the people or culture. Please don't tell me that your "grandmother" or, my favourite, "great-great-grandmother" was native and that's why you have the right to borrow from my culture. Unless you live and breathe this tough life and actually have family you love struggling out there, you have no right to beg, borrow, or, more likely steal, from us.

On the other hand, I like the way that ms fox adapted the look for her own ensemble for the braids on 18.3.11

That's appropriate. You looked, you got inspired, and your created your own take. Much more respectful.

I like what you do, but I am SO sick of seeing honorable things degraded for someone's gain.

I'm sorry but I have to agree with Sam. I love certain aspects of South Western influence such as the textiles and jewellery, but when white girls start donning Native American headresses with tiny bikinis whilst gazing earnestly across the land it makes me shudder. It is culturally insensitive at best and neo-colonialist at worst.

I agree with Emily and Sam. I'm so glad you shared your voices on this subject. Inappropriately and insensitively appropriating a sacred and rich culture that is not one's own, especially for commercial gain presented as "art" w/out any substantive context or meaning, is not okay.
